Breast Wobbling Pain : Remedy from Tamil Nadu

June 03: Padma Bhushan Prof.Dr.P.Chandra Sekharan has suggested a
remedy to the ailment suffered by women sports persons consequent upon
the frequent breast movement of players while in action.
The health study on 'breast wobbling' carried out by sports scientist
Joanna Scurr at the University of Portsmouth, UK throws a warning to
women especially those with huge breasts. In the case of big-breasted
sportswomen such as tennis players, horse riders and the like, their
breasts indeed wobble a lot thanks to the loose type boleros they
wear.
Scurr's findings indicate that women experience great degree of pain
and discomfort when their breasts are in the process of accelerating
or decelerating due to their movements, up and down, in and out and
from side to side.
According to Chandra Sekharan, former chief of the Tamil Nadu Forensic
Laboratory, the Tamil women of yesteryears were aware of this
phenomenon. They escaped the breast pain by binding their bosoms with
a 'breast band'- a long piece of cloth known as "Marbu Kachchai" in
Tamil. Plenty of evidence confirming this practice is found in ancient
Tamil literature as well as in ancient paintings and sculpture.
Perhaps similar practice might have been followed in other
civilizations as well. It is the modern bra which replaced the breast
band. At least huge breasted women should now go back to the practice
of binding their breasts if they want to prevent breast pain, he
suggested.
